LTHOUGH BLACK STAR is known for the roster of photographers we represent, it was common during the 40s and 50s for Black Star to handle a single picture story - sometimes even a single photo - from a photographer, without representing his or her work overall.
SUCH IS THE CASE with these pictures by California-based photographer Ken Dare. His story, Banking by TV, represents the blind optimism and technical aspirations of the decade. |

"IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE," writes Dare, "bank customers will be making deposits via closed-circuit TV." What seemed like a novel idea then, still somehow undershoots the reality of the Automatic Teller Machine widely in use today.
NEVERTHELESS, pictures like these fill the gaps between history's defining moments, and remain archived as an example of American ingenuity and hope. |
